How to scare a school nurse....
Back when I was a high school junior, I took chemistry. The first week of school, we had all those lovely lectures about how to correctly do things in the lab and what to do if something happened.
I have a mind for logic, so I had a bit of a reputation for being good at Chemistry, though my grade was pretty much a solid "D" for not turning in homework and lab papers, etc. (lots of '0's get balanced out a bit by high test scores).
Anyways, our first lab back in January, my normal lab partner wasn't there, so I sat with two other girls and partnered with them for the lab. I sat across the table from them as they did the experiment, reading the instructions and getting the materials, etc. Anyways, we were heating up a chemical solution of HCL and something else, and they forgot to put the dish lid thing on the little bowl, and the solution started spattering out, and dropping into the flame, making the flame jump higher. The other girls started to freak out and backed away from the table to the wall, and I calmly reached over and turned the gas to the burner off. As I did so, a hunk of solution landed on my arm, and I just calmly turned the water on and rinsed it off, then took some paper towels, wet them and put it on my arm, and since it was the last ten minutes of class, I just left the paper towels on my arm, and it started to feel like a burn after a few minutes
Class being over finally, I had a half period of study hall, and I went down to the nurse and signed in. When I told her I had a chemical burn, she started to freak out a bit, and I dug out my lab instructions and told her what I got burned with, and she called poison control, and it all boiled down to just putting some Neosporin and a band aid on it.
I don't know if she ever reported it to my teacher, but he never said anything about it, and neither did I. It scarred a little, and I can still point out the spot on my arm, but nobody else can see it, it just looks like a freckle now.
Oh, and a few weeks later? My chemistry teacher was reaching across the lab table next to mine and his shirt caught on fire. Nothing burned but his shirt, so it was just really funny.
Who ever said Chemistry was boring?
